Pengkajian Puisi Inggris
[ love is more thicker than forget ]
by E. E. Cummings
January 1939
love is more thicker than forget
more thinner than recall
more seldom than a wave is wet
more frequent than to fail
it is most mad and moonly
and less it shall unbe
than all the sea which only
is deeper than the sea
love is less always than to win
less never than alive
less bigger than the least begin
less littler than forgive
it is most sane and sunly
and more it cannot die
than all the sky which only
is higher than the sky
Analysis:
1. Alliteration: The second stanza of the poem line 1 "it is most mad and moonly" can be categorized as Alliteration, because of the use of the letter "m" in "most, mad, and moonly".
2. Anaphora:
- The third stanza of the poem line 1 to 4, "love is less always than to win / less never than alive / less bigger than the least begin / less littler than forgive". This stanza can be categorized as an Anaphora, the word "less" in every sentence describes an Anaphora where there is a repetition of a word or phrase at the beginning of clause/sentence.

3. Hyperbole: The second stanza of the poem line 4, " is deeper than the sea". This sentence describe a Hyperbole, still in the same context talking about love. It can be said as Hyperbole because it shows an exaggeration that the "love" is deeper than the sea, while in reality "love" cannot be compared with the depth of the ocean.
4. Personification: The second stanza of the poem line 1, "it is most mad and moonly" can also be categorized as Personification because of the word "mad". Mad is one of human characteristics, where love probably cannot be mad.
