 I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud

by William Wordsworth

Title Analysis:

When I read the poem, I think this poem is about human's feeling. This poem describe about loneliness.

The poem:

I wandered lonely as a cloud

That floats on high o'er vales and hills,

When all at once I saw a crowd,

A host, of golden daffodils;

Beside the lake, beneath the trees,

Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine

And twinkle on the milky way,

They stretched in never-ending line

Along the margin of a bay:

Ten thousand saw I at a glance,

Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced; but they

Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:

A poet could not but be gay,

In such a jocund company:

I gazed--and gazed--but little thought

What wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie

In vacant or in pensive mood,

They flash upon that inward eye

Which is the bliss of solitude;

And then my heart with pleasure fills,

And dances with the daffodils.

Paraphrase:

I wandered lonely as a sky

That hovers far above the hills and valleys,

I saw a gathering all of a sudden.,

A swarm of yellow daffodils, to be precise.;

Along the water's edge, among the trees,

In the breeze, fluttering and dancing.

As bright as the stars that shine

And on the milky way,

They formed an endless queue.

Along a bay's edge:

At a glimpse, ten thousand people spotted me.

They're lively dancing and tossing their heads.

The waves around them danced, but they didn't.

Out-giggled the glistening waves:

It's impossible for a poet not to be homosexual.

In such a merry bunch:

I stared—and stared—but I didn't think much about it.

What a boon the show had been to me:

When I'm on my couch, I frequently lie down.

When you're in a drowsy or reflective state,

They flicker in front of that inner eye.

Which is the joy of being alone;

Then my heart overflows with joy.

And daffodils dance with her.

Connotation:

-Simile: In the first line "I wandered lonely as a cloud". The writer using as to compare the loneliness with a cloud.

-Personification: In line 24 "And dances with the daffodils". The writer using daffodils as if the flower can dance, which is impossible.

-Hyperbole: In line 11 "Ten thousand saw I at a glance". Ten thousand saw describes a hyperbole.

Attitude:

-At the beginning at the poem the writer seems compared himself with his surroundings, with nature.

-The poem points the nature as his theme.

Theme:

-About human life that attached to nature.

-The breathtaking beauty of nature has attracted him, for example in line 17-18 "I gazed--and gazed--but little thought, What wealth the show to me had brought".

-When the poet is down or lonely, this permanent impression, generated by nature, is frequently a source of joy for him.

Title (again):

-The prediction were true, but progressing. It's not about loneliness only, but also develop into nature that has been the source of joy of the writer.
